We know that everyone is unique, so why do we still think that a one-size fits all wellness program...
Overcoming Inertia
In a recent conversation with a customer on achieving better personal health, I was asked to solve her biggest issue personally: “the inability to action on an unequivocally positive goal, regardless of how logical it is.”
It is true.
Everyone knows that exercise is good. Everyone knows that staying hydrated is important. Everyone knows that sleep is essential. Yet, often when I ask the person “Did you exercise yesterday?” “Did you drink water in the last hour?” and “Did you get 8 hours of sleep last night?” The answers are “no”.
People often blame themselves, their boss, and their environment for their inability to act. They often look down as they explore the issue, as if the floor had an answer key. Sadly, the floor, bless it for being ever so supportive and consistent, has never displayed anything useful in terms of advice… as an alternative, I recommend looking the other way: Up. For inspiration.
We are creatures of thought and ideas. We aspire to become better. We just need a trigger, and some added motivation.
People perk up when they are in the radius of triumph and glory. We chase dreams and love competition. So let’s use that motivation!
Getting to the gym becomes easier when you are excited to wear your new kicks. Drinking water hourly is more fun when you know you are competing with friends! Sleeping early is aspirational when you know that is the common contributor to success for 23 CEOS. (http://www.businessinsider.com/successful-early-risers-2012-1?op=1)
Get inspired often.
And get reminded of those magical thoughts with some digital aid is also helpful too.
